In response to the success of a Warm Space hub during the winter of 2022/2023 Elmwood decided that the usual Café which is held on a Friday would run an extended Café from 10.00am to 2.00pm, continuing to serve lunches.

We now welcome an average of 65 people of all ages each week, more than double the numbers at the beginning of the year! Roughly half of those who attend are Elmwood people and half are community guests.

A privately run Baby Signing group runs alongside Café each Friday and young mums who met there have formed friendship groups and stay for coffee or lunch afterwards with their babies. New Mums can themselves feel socially isolated so it’s good to be providing a space for them to meet and the babies are proving a hit with the older generation!

Community Carers are finding Elmwood a safe and welcoming place to bring their clients; some are elderly and some have additional needs. Others have braved coming on their own and have found friends.

There are a choice of activities on offer each week. Jigsaws were a popular choice of activity in the winter months. A domino group has formed and a group of older ladies always seem to find some reason to laugh together as they chat. We also have a number that enjoy Kurling sessions run by the Health Improvement team in the hall.
